Artist Statement

Storytelling has been paramount to my artistic practice, and I am drawn to stories that play with a fiction narrative story based on my cultural background. I am interested in cultural elements and human rights in our society and how they can be explored in a way that reflects our real world from a different point of view and breaks the stereotype that the audience has toward the context I used for this film. The narratives that have driven me are through lived experience and through the experience of people who struggle with the disability. Having grown up in the Korean-Canadian community, working with the Korean disability community in Vancouver, and maintaining connection to people who have disability family members and the community in Korea, has provided me with the privilege of hearing many personal stories that have brought meaningful resonance to my creative practice.
