Artist’s Statement
This film was inspired by my experience as an immigrant child, not quite fitting in an unfamiliar environment. For the longest time, I wanted to be like the other kids around me and often neglected and disregarded my cultural heritage. Over time, I learned to appreciate and be proud of who I am and where I came from. The concept of Mahika came from my love of the fantasy genre and magical girls.
