Artist Statement
My artistic practice is deeply rooted in storytelling, as I aim to use my films to raise awareness of societal issues and inspire independent thinking among audiences.The film’s inception arose from my urge to amplify the voices of women enduring domestic violence. Additionally, it serves as a platform for those subjected to emotional manipulation and control. My aim is to empower them to break free from toxic relationships and assert their rights and dignity.I believe in the transformative power of art to transcend linguistic and cultural barriers, stirring hearts and instigating societal change.
Bio
Zhiqi Zhao is a Chinese animator residing in the vibrant city of Vancouver. Her passion for drawing and comics has been a driving force throughout her life, leading her on a dedicated journey into the world of animation. Zhiqi’s expertise lies primarily in 2D Experimental Animation, with a specialized focus on Production Design, which she honed during her time at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.Her professional experiences include freelance illustration and production design for international clients, and is focused on developing a career in the animation industry.
